Stellest® Lenses in Tazewell and Lebanon

Serving southwest Virginia

If your child has been diagnosed with myopia, also known as nearsightedness, you probably have a lot of questions. A pediatric eye exam can confirm whether myopia is present, but once you have that answer, the next challenge is figuring out what to do about it.

At ClearSight EyeCare, we offer Essilor Stellest® lenses in Tazewell and Lebanon. These are the first spectacle lenses to receive FDA market authorization for slowing myopia progression in children.

Benefits of Stellest lenses

Stellest lenses use a technology called H.A.L.T. (Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target). Each lens contains 1,021 invisible lenslets that work together to create what’s called myopic defocus, which signals the eye to slow its elongation.

Clinical studies have found that Stellest lenses can slow myopia progression by an average of 71% compared to single vision lenses when worn consistently.¹ That’s a meaningful difference for a child whose prescription has been creeping up year after year.

For best results, experts recommend children wear their Stellest lenses for at least ten hours a day, six days a week. That kind of consistent wear lets the lenses do their job while also fully correcting your child’s everyday vision.

Who are the best candidates for Stellest lenses?

Stellest spectacle lenses are designed for children between the ages of 6 and 12 who have myopia, with or without astigmatism. They’re worn in regular frames, making them a great option for younger kids who may not be ready for contact lenses like ortho-k.

If your child was just diagnosed or their myopia has been worsening over time, Stellest lenses offer a simple, glasses-based solution that fits naturally into their daily routine

Stellest lens FAQ

How long does treatment last?

Stellest lenses slow the progression of myopia, but your child’s prescription may still change over time. Our doctors will monitor their progress at each visit and recommend any adjustments as needed. Think of it as an ongoing partnership rather than a one-time fix.

Are the lenses covered by insurance?

Stellest lenses are a newer option, so insurance coverage can vary depending on your plan. We recommend checking with your provider before moving forward. If coverage is limited, our team is happy to help you explore solutions that fit your budget.

Will my child need another set of glasses?

Stellest lenses are designed for full-time wear and meet all of your child’s everyday vision needs, so a separate pair usually isn’t necessary. They’re safe for regular daily use during school, sports, screen time, and any other activities that are part of your child’s life.

What if the lenses don't work for my child?

Some kids go through a short adaptation period when they first start wearing Stellest lenses, typically less than a week. Most adjust quickly and don’t notice any difference from standard glasses. If your child is still uncomfortable after a week or their vision seems affected, let us know and we’ll figure out a solution.
